Well, that was an eventful opening day.
Opening Day Jitters?
That was a nervy one to watch wasn’t it Reds? Never in doubt though…
A very tough game for Liverpool today, a very good Leeds side showed up and proved that they are not a Championship team no more. You have got to give them credit for the way they played today and they will be a real challenge for a lot of teams this season, so much energy and their mentality not to just lie down but come back not once but three times and against last season’s Champions too.
Some good spells and some questionable spells from Liverpool today. The opening game of a new season is always a bit dodgy and its been a very bizarre few months for all the teams, we were not the Liverpool we expected today but this team will blow us all away at times this season I’m sure of it and I’m looking forward to the challenge that is ahead.
Opening Day Delight For Salah
I thought Mo Salah was our best player on the pitch today.
From the very first minute, you could see he was hungry for a goal and he did absolutely everything right on the pitch. His work rate was good today and his finishing was second to none. Two penalties are a bit lucky but you’ve still got to score them and he put both away neatly and gave the keeper no chance. His second goal was sublime, Martin Keown said you wouldn’t see a better goal this season when Arsenal scored today, well I think Mo will have something to say about that one.

I think we can all agree that we were not 100% defensively today and I’m quite sure Jurgen Klopp and his backroom staff will be highlighting that at Melwood tomorrow because we can not give teams those kinds of opportunities. Leeds punished us today, not sure what Virgil Van Dijk was trying to do but I think Jamie Carragher described it perfectly when he said he was almost a bit too arrogant in trying to clear the ball, we can’t afford to have defensive errors especially against the top sides. I don’t think Virgil will stress too much over it, we live and we learn and he’s fortunate that it didn’t affect the final result.
Chelsea Up Next
Hopefully, we have got our defensive errors out the way today because we can’t give Chelsea’s forward line any more power than they already have. A big games against a Chelsea side who have recruited well this summer and will be looking to get one over on their top four rivals early on.
