Despite reports and rumours to the contrary, it looks like Liverpool will not be making a move to sign Italian winger Federico Chiesa this summer.

The Reds had reportedly made a significant transfer offer for the 23-year-old but according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, those reports are wide of the mark.

Taking to Twitter, Romano confirmed that Liverpool have not made an offer for the winger, who is currently on loan at Juventus, who are obligated to sign him permanently next year.

Romano said:

“Liverpool have NOT made an official bid for Federico Chiesa despite rumours. There’s nothing going on and no chance to sign him this summer.

Liverpool board knows about Juventus stance. Chiesa is considered ‘untouchable’ – FC Bayern are aware of this decision too.”

Given that Xherdan Shaqiri looks set to leave Liverpool, plus the fact that both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah will miss part of the upcoming season to play in the AFCON, Liverpool do look like they need at least one more quality winger in their squad.

Chiesa, who had an excellent European Championships as Italy won the prestigious tournament, could have been a brilliant addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad, but a transfer for the 23-year-old never really looked likely due to the deal Juventus have to keep him permanently.

Still, Liverpool do need another forward option in their squad and Michael Edwards will need to deliver a quality player to Jurgen Klopp, or he seriously runs the risk of another trophyless season at Anfield.
