The match ends 2–1 in favour of Liverpool in a crucial win for the Reds. Virgil van Dijk’s late winner sends Liverpool 13 points clear of Arsenal, leaving them just two more wins away from securing the Premier League title. However, this was far from a straightforward victory — a tightly contested clash with plenty of talking points. So, what exactly went right and what went wrong for the home side today?

In the first half, Liverpool looked like the side from earlier this season — both wingers were electric, and the midfield dictated the tempo with authority. Luis Díaz’s fine form is worth highlighting, with the Colombian registering a goal contribution in each of his last three appearances — two of which directly helped secure victories for Liverpool. Conor Bradley’s impressive performance will certainly please Liverpool fans, especially with the young full-back now expected to take over as the starting right-back following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure. Virgil van Dijk’s late winner was a fitting moment too, with the captain reportedly close to announcing a new deal to extend his stay at the club. The Dutchman was seen kissing the badge, a gesture that could be a sign of positive things to come.

Moving on to areas of concern, Liverpool seemed to lose their rhythm in the second half. The team lost control, which speaks to how relentlessly West Ham pushed, but a better second-half performance is expected from Liverpool at Anfield. Jota’s performance raised some concerns once again, but what nearly cost the Reds was the mix-up between Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson, which led to Robertson’s own goal. While it’s clear Liverpool aren’t quite at their brilliant best right now, the focus is on getting over the line, followed by smart recruitment in the summer and giving players the rest they need.
