The club has played countless memorable games throughout its history, and some of the most iconic ones are mentioned below:

  1. Liverpool 3-3 AC Milan

No list of iconic Liverpool matches is complete without mentioning ‘that night in Istanbul’. Considered by many to be the greatest game in the club’s history and one of the greatest comebacks in world football, the 2005 Champions League final between Liverpool and AC Milan is a game for the ages. Liverpool took on a fully-stacked AC Milan team that had players like Kaka, Cafu, Maldini, Seedorf, and Pirlo, along with others, and was being coached by Carlo Ancelloti. The Merseyside Reds went down by three goals in the first half, and the game was all but over. However, in the second half, the club did something that had never been done before. In the 54th minute, Gerrard pulled one back for The Reds before Vladimir Smicer made it 3-2. Xabi Alonso then netted home the third goal to make the game level. Liverpool won the match on penalties and gave us a game that will be talked about for decades to come.

  1. Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona

Another historic comeback, this one took place in the semi-final of the Champions League. In the 2019 Champions league season, Liverpool took on Barca in the semis. After losing the first leg at the Camp Nou by 3 goals to nil, no one expected Liverpool to perform the way they did in the second leg. Origi scored the first goal inside the first ten minutes and gave the team an ideal start. Later on, Gini Wijnaldum was brought on as a sub in the second half and produced probably the greatest performance by a substitute in Champions League semi-final history by scoring two goals. In the 79th minute, the ‘corner taken quickly’ moment took place that will probably haunt Barcelona forever; Trent Alexander Arnold whipped a quick corner to Origi, who put the ball into the net to give the home side the lead and sent the Kop into a frenzy.

  1. Liverpool 4-3 Newcastle

Voted the greatest Premier League game of all time, this fixture took place in 1996. Liverpool started off strong and took the lead with a Robbie Fowler strike before Les Ferdinand David Ginola scored to give the Magpies the lead. Fowler then scored another to bring the score back to level. Newcastle regained its lead with a Faustino Asprille strike; however, only three minutes later, Stan Collymore made the score level again. Collymore then got his second goal of the game by netting a stoppage-time winner and sending the magpies home with a loss and dealing a massive blow to their title hopes.

  1. Liverpool 4-3 Borussia Dortmund

Considered by many to be the greatest game in Europa League history, the 2016 semi-final between Liverpool and Dortmund is another game for the ages. The first leg ended all square at 1-1, and Liverpool went down by two goals within the first in the second leg at Anfield. Origi scored the first for the Kop, but Dortmund’s two-goal lead was restored when Marco Reus netted home the third for the German side. However, in the second half, Liverpool got one back through Coutinho before Mamadou Sakho made it level in the 77th minute. Lovren then scored in the 91st minute to complete another iconic European comeback for The Reds.
