Liverpool Weekly News Roundup

The Reds started the week with two very tough fixtures ahead of them. The second leg of their round of 16 tie against Inter Milan was the first, with Liverpool holding a two-goal advantage from the first leg in Milan. Then, an away trip to the Amex Stadium to visit Brighton for the early kick-off on Saturday.

7th March

Klopp confirmed that Firmino, Thiago and Matip had all returned to full training.

Mo Salah received a nomination for the PFA Fan’s Player of the Month award for February. Other nominees included Che Adams, Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Craig Dawson and Jarrod Bowen.

The Reds found out they would be playing Nottingham Forest in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. Forest currently sit 9th in the Championship and have put out Leicester and Arsenal in the previous rounds.

8th March

It was matchday as Liverpool looked to confirm their spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Jurgen made four changes from the previous encounter with West Ham. Matip, Thiago, Jones and Jota all came back into the side.

It was defeat at Anfield for the Reds, however, the 1-0 scoreline was enough for Liverpool to progress into the next round.

Liverpool had their chances, but an excellent finish from Lautaro Martinez earned Inter Milan the win.

9th March

The LFC Foundation announced Kenny Dalglish as the manager for the Liverpool Legends team when they face off against Barcelona legends.

17-year-old Callum Scanlon signed his first professional contract with the Reds.

10th March 

LFC Retail revealed the ten most popular players’ names and numbers added to supporters’ shirts throughout the season so far, the top ten were as follows:

March 11th 

Liverpool celebrated Andy Robertson’s birthday, the Scotsman turned 28 and has 209 appearances for the Reds getting 49 assists. 

Joel Matip was awarded the Premier League Player of the Month trophy for February. The centre-half got a goal, assist and three clean sheets throughout the month.

March 12th 

It was another match day for the Reds as they took on Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

Henderson, Keita and Diaz all came back into the side, with Naby making his 100th appearance for the Reds.

Goals from Luis Diaz and Mo Salah lead the Reds to their 8th successive Premier League win as they now sit 3 points behind Man City with them playing Crystal Palace tonight. (14th March)

Another controversial incident with VAR occurred as many thought Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez should’ve received a red card for his challenge on Diaz before the first goal. The standard of Premier League refereeing is continuing to be questioned from all fan bases.

Salah reached another landmark as he produced his 20th Premier League goal for the fourth time in five seasons, one season wonder? As well as this, he became only the third player to score 50 away goals for Liverpool during the Premier League era.

The 2-0 win also marked 2000 Premier League goals for the Reds in Premier League history.

Luis Diaz was awarded Player of the Match.

Another successful week from the Reds after two very challenging games. Next up, Liverpool play Arsenal on Wednesday at the Emirates in the Premier League. Then, an away trip to Nottingham Forest on Sunday will decide if the Reds will play in the FA Cup semi-finals.
