Curtis Jones started the game after being left out of the Reds’ previous three matches against Burnley, Inter and Norwich.
Thiago made his 50th appearance for the club, a stat which may be surprising to some.
A brace from Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, along with goals from Matip and Van Dijk, gave Liverpool a crushing 6-0 win over Leeds United.
A day that finally marked the success of Joel Matip’s forward runs that he loves to do, as his brilliantly worked goal made the scoreline 2-0.
Salah was voted player of the match as he reached double figures for goals and assists this season. The Egyptian now has 19 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League.
Mane also reached double figures for goals. The Senegalese star now has 11 goals in the Premier League this season.
The win meant Liverpool now sat 3 points behind Manchester City with both teams having played 26 games each.
A successful day for the reds who now looked onto Sunday’s cup final against Chelsea.
Thursday 24th February
The 6-0 win over Leeds now meant that Liverpool had the top three players for goals and assists this season in the Premier League, a mind-blowing stat. Sunday 27th February
Liverpool won the Carabao Cup after an incredible 11-10 penalty shootout! For a record-breaking 9th time, the league cup was heading to Anfield.
A late injury blow for Thiago meant that Naby Keita started in midfield alongside Henderson and Fabinho. The backline consisted of Trent, Matip, Van Dijk and Robertson with Salah, Mane and Diaz starting as a front three.
The two sides were evenly matched throughout the entire game with both having goals ruled out. One decision was very controversial as an offside was given against Van Dijk as he was in an offside position, but replays showed that he wasn’t involved with the play leading up to the goal from Matip.
11 incredible penalties from Milner, Fabinho, Van Dijk, Trent, Salah, Jota, Origi, Robertson, Elliot, Konate and Kelleher in the shootout, paired with a goal-kick style penalty miss from Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa meant that Liverpool were crowned the champions of the 2022 Carabao Cup in dramatic fashion!
An incredible moment for the Reds as Kelleher, Konate, Elliot, Jota and Diaz all won their first trophy as a Liverpool player, hopefully, the first of many.
The first of four possible trophies for Liverpool this season which just sounds wonderful. It must also be noted that watching the Jordan Henderson shuffle will never get old.
Next week the Reds face Norwich City in the FA Cup and West Ham at Anfield!
