Yet again it has been a busy week for Liverpool Football Club and matters surrounding it. This week Liverpool started their campaign in the knockout rounds of the Champions League and faced a must-win game against Norwich in the Premier League to keep the title race going!
Anyway, if you missed something over the past week, we have you covered!

Monday 14th February

  • The week started with the Reds celebrating the 71st birthday of former Liverpool legend Kevin Keegan.
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold was awarded the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for January. An excellent month for the fullback as he recorded another four assists to his already impressive record. Trent now sits on 14 assists in all competitions this season.
  • Liverpool FC Women’s player Leanne Kiernan won the FA Women’s Championship goal of the month for January after her incredible right-footed strike against Blackburn Rovers LFC.

Tuesday 15th February

  • Fabrizio Romano reported that Liverpool had offered James Milner a one-year contract extension as Klopp “wants Milner to be part of the team also next season”.
  • The Reds landed in Milan knowing that an away win would not be easy against a strong Inter Milan side who sat second in Serie A. With the away goals rule no longer valid, Jurgen and his men hoped to get a good enough advantage over Inzaghi’s Italian side to further get the job done at Anfield.

Wednesday 16th February

A Bobby Firmino header and a tidy finish from Mo Salah secured Liverpool a two-goal advantage over Inter Milan in the first leg of the Round of 16. A great game with another Mo Salah record as he scored his eighth consecutive UCL away goal on his 50th UCL appearance for the Reds.
A solid away performance from the Reds as Harvey Elliot (18) become the youngest player to start a European Cup or Champions League match for the club. A record previously held by Trent AA.

Thursday 17th February

  • Liverpool released their Carabao Cup final range ahead of the final against Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday the 27th.

Friday 18th February

  • Preparations got underway for Liverpool’s next Premier League game, a home fixture against Norwich City. For the first time in a while, the Reds had the chance to put pressure on Man City as they faced Spurs in the late kick-off.
  • France football ranked the top 30 stadiums in the world based on their matchday atmosphere. Anfield was placed in second behind the Bombonera, the home of Argentinian side Boca Juniors. The only other English side to appear on the list was Newcastle United, St James’ Park placed 22nd. [DailyStar]
  • Fabinho was named the Standard Chartered Men’s Player of the Month, beating Diogoal Jota to the award in a fan poll on LiverpoolFC.com
  • Jurgen Klopp received three nominations in this year’s British LGBT Awards for his support of the LGBT+ community during the past 12 months.
  • Jota was officially ruled out of the Norwich game after he picked up an ankle injury in Milan.

Saturday 19th February

  • Liverpool had the chance to go 6 points behind Manchester City as they faced Norwich in their 25th game of the Premier League season.
  • An early second-half goal from Norwich forced Jurgen into making two changes, Thiago and Origi. This move turned out to be vital, as Thiago completely changed the game and controlled the midfield for the rest of the game.
  • A bicycle kick from Mane made the score all square. Alisson provided the assist for Salah’s 150th goal as a Red to make it 2-1 and Luis Diaz got a debut goal as he dinked the keeper to give Liverpool a thoroughly deserved 3-1 win.
  • Joe Gomez featured as he made his first Premier League start since November 2020.
  • Diaz’s chip was the 100th goal scored by Liverpool this season in all competitions.
  • Later in the day, a 95th minute winner from Harry Kane meant that Man City dropped three points in a 5-goal thriller against Spurs. That means the Reds now sit 6 points behind City with a game in hand! The title race is very much still alive.

Sunday 20th February

  • Liverpool wished a Happy 71st Birthday to one of their most successful players Phil Neal. The full-back was the only player to feature in the Reds’ first four European Cup triumphs.
  • The Reds also wished loanee Paul Glatzel a Happy 21st Birthday, the German striker is currently having a successful loan spell for League Two side Tranmere Rovers.
  • An excellent week for Liverpool Football Club and everyone else involved.
