As the month of March has come to a close and April has begun, I thought I would take a look at how Liverpool FC Women have got on in their fixtures this month. Normally Amy and I would do a video explaining all of this but with her not being in Liverpool, an article is all I can offer you unfortunately.
The month of March was not expected to be a pleasant one with us facing the top three in the table one after another.
Liverpool vs Chelsea
4-0 (Kirby X3, Engman X1)
The month began with a home fixture against Chelsea, the game ended as a 4-0 defeat. Fran Kirby was on great form that day bagging herself a hat-trick at Prenton Park. Chelsea have had a different season compared to last year and haven’t been the favourites for the top spot this year with Arsenal and Man City having that battle but they’re still hoping to achieve a Champions League spot and this win helped them to continue to push towards that.
Man City vs Liverpool
3-0 (Beckie X1, Stanway X2)
Our second game of March came against Man City away in the FA Cup Quarter-Finals. This was a big game for Liverpool as it was the last opportunity for us to contend for some silverware but Man City was able to get the better of us and the game finished 3-0 in 90 minutes.
Beckie got the opening goal for the hosts with Georgia Stanway coming off the bench to grab two for herself. The game itself did not reflect the scoreline with Liverpool having some good opportunities to score themselves in both halves.

Liverpool vs Arsenal
1-5 (Sweetman-Kirk x1) (Little X1, Mead X2, Bloodworth X1, Miedema X1)
This was the toughest game for us this month in my opinion, Arsenal has been flying this season and are on course to win their first WSL title since 2012.
Both sides had plenty of possession and it looked as though Liverpool were going to get something from the game but Arsenal showed their resilience and made it difficult for us. Beth Mead was on top form in that match and grabbed two goals, the England star is definitely heading to the World Cup this summer.
Man City vs Liverpool
2-1 (Emslie X1, Beattie X1) (Sweetman-Kirk X1)
It was time to face Man City again but this time it was in the league, every fan would have been wanted us to take the three points here just so we could end the month on a bit of a high but it was always going to be difficult.
City took the lead through Emslie in the first half, Courtney Sweetman-Kirk then added to her goalscoring tally by converting a penalty and it looked as though we were going to snatch a point but Beattie scored the winning goal in the 95th minute to keep the pressure on Arsenal at the top of the table.
