Liverpool suffers a defeat to Arsenal women at home with Beth Mead stealing the show with two goals.

Both sides had plenty of the ball in the first half with Liverpool having a couple of opportunities to cause problems for Arsenal but unfortunately, we just couldn’t take our chances. This result meant that Arsenal now move to the top of the WSL Table with Man City not playing until next weekend.

Kim Little scored the first of Arsenal five with Beth Mead adding the second not long after, there was a bit of confusion as to whether or not the goal went into the back of the net with both the referee and the linesman being unsure but eventually the goal was given.

Mead then scored the second with a great goal from the edge of the area. I think it was intended to be a cross but she put a bit too much pace on it and it ended up in the back of the net. Dominique Bloodworth then added a fourth and it looked like Liverpool were down and out.

Liverpool did have a bit of hope however when Yana Daniels was brought down in the box, Courtney Sweetman-Kirk stepped up and she wasn’t messing about with her kick going in the top corner. That seemed to give the team a bit of a boost but then Vivianne Miedema thought otherwise and made it five for Arsenal with an excellent chipped finish over Preuss.

A disappointing result for Liverpool but take nothing away from the team’s performance and work ethic this afternoon, Manchester City up next which is going to be another tough game but fingers crossed for a good result.
