Liverpool record another win in the WSL with a 1-0 victory over West Ham United at home

An excellent first half from Liverpool saw us have plenty of possession and get ourselves into all the right positions but we just couldn’t pull anything off in the final third. Laura Coombs had a long-range effort hit the bar and bounce in but the referee said the ball did not cross the line but some replays beg to differ. This means that we went into half-time at 0-0.

A few minutes into the first half saw Courtney Sweetman-Kirk open the scoring for the Reds in the 48th minute after Laura Coombs chased a ball from midfield and managed to whip the cross in and find CSK at the back post and she smashed the ball into the roof of the net, that was her seventh goal of the season and her first at home. She nearly doubled her tally a few moments later as she was open at the back post once again but Christie Murray cross was intercepted before it could reach her.

Rinsola Babajide returned after a few games out due to injury and looked lively when she came on, she offers a lot of pace up front and can be a handful for defenders at times so it is nice to see her back. New signing Jemma Purfield was on the bench but did not make her debut for the Reds so hopefully, we can see her in the cup match at the weekend.

West Ham had a few chances of their own with a few long-range efforts where saved by Anke Preuss or going just over the bar. They had a brilliant chance to go ahead in the first half but Bradley-Auckland recovered well and pulled off an excellent tackle to deny them the opportunity. Preuss pulled off a terrific save in the 84th minute and it was a nervy end for Liverpool with West Ham having several corners that could have proved costly for Liverpool.

Liverpool now go level on points with the hammers and just two points behind Reading in sixth place. Up next the Reds have MK Dons at home in the cup on Sunday 3rd February, tickets are available for that game so get yourselves down to Prenton Park to support the team!
