Liverpool have joined the race to sign Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli, according to reports in Italy.
La Gazzetta dello Sport (translated by Football Italia) claim that the Reds have joined Juventus and Arsenal in the chase to sign the Euro 2020 winner.
The player reportedly has his heart set on a move to Juventus, but the Turin-based side do not have the funds available to sign him on a permanent deal and are looking for a loan move with an option to buy.
Sassuolo are only looking for a permanent deal and as such, a move to Juve, despite being the player’s preference, is on hold.
Locatelli, according to the report, has also rejected the chance to join Arsenal as he wants to play Champions League football, and that could open the door for Liverpool.
Giovanni Carnevali, Sassuolo‘a CEO, recently declared that another English team, other than Arsenal, were interested in Locatelli, and it appears that the club in question are Liverpool. However, time to get a deal done is right, with the Italian club setting a deadline of August 8th for the sale to be sanctioned, or they’ll keep him until January, at least.

Locatelli was a key part of Italy’s Euro 2020 winning squad, and it’s no surprise to see that interest in the 23-year-old is high.
Liverpool need to sign a new midfielder to replace Gini Wijnaldum and Locatelli would fit the bill.
His age and reported fee of around £35m fit the profile of the type of player that Michael Edwards likes to target, and he has put in some excellent performances in the recent past, which suggest that there’s more to come.
With a deadline of August 8th set, Liverpool may have their work cut out to get a deal done, but it’s something they absolutely should be pursuing.
