Liverpool leaves Istanbul with another trophy after beating Chelsea 5-4 on penalties.

Well, that was long.

UEFA are silly, aren’t they?

There was no need for there to be extra-time in tonight’s game, everyone would have been happy with that going straight to penalties after 90 minutes but hey ho we’ve ended up winning so shouldn’t complain really. I was going to spare a thought for our fans in the stadium at 1 am but I’m pretty sure everyone will be having a few drinks tonight regardless of the result.

Brilliant Joel

I thought Joel Matip was Man of the match tonight.

He was unlucky to not get into the starting XI for Friday’s game against Norwich at home but that shows how competitive it is at the club right now for a place in the starting line-up. Each player will be assessed after this game and it will be interesting to see who starts on Saturday at Southampton but Joel Matip is definitely in with a shout. Gomez may get a rest with Trent coming back in at right-back simply because he has played fewer minutes this evening.

Also, big congratulations to him for making his 100th appearance for the Reds tonight and he gets to walk away with a winners medal too!

Adrian The Hero!

Wasn’t a bad week for the Spaniard, was it?

I don’t he was expecting to be starting in this game tonight but unfortunate circumstances for Alisson means that his services were called upon. He was unlucky with the penalty in extra-time as I’m not sure there was enough contact on the player but that’s the way it goes sometimes but he makes up for it in the shootout with a stray leg denying Tammy Abraham.

Not going to lie, I was nervous about him being the first choice for us for the next few weeks simply because he hasn’t had much football in the last year or so but he showed us in some moments that he can be a valuable goalkeeper and ultimately he saved us tonight.
