Liverpool V Crystal Palace | Things We Learned

Liverpool is two points away from winning their first Premier League title after a 4-0 win over Crystal Palace at Anfield.

The Liverpool We Know

I enjoyed watching every minute of that match, fully in control of the whole game this evening and we didn’t really give Crystal Palace a chance to make an impact. Palace did not have a single touch inside our box tonight and that proves just how dominant we played this evening. I wonder how Alisson passed the time this evening, probably thinking about what meat to cook for his BBQ tomorrow.

Jurgen Klopp’s strongest team was back playing tonight, that line up is the best we have in the squad and the one we all hoped and probably expected to play. In the build-up to this game, Klopp and his staff will take into consideration fitness levels from playing at the weekend as not playing a competitive match after three months, and then playing two in the space of four days is tough so he used his squad well this evening.

The front three back together again and two out of three getting on the scoresheet, would have been nice for Bobby Firmino to add one but take what you can get ey. Great to see Andy Robertson back in the team, he was missed greatly on Sunday both in defence and going forward, and right from the kick-off today he was fired up so really pleased he was back playing the full 90.

Trent Alexander-Arnold deserves all the praise this evening too. His free-kick was incredible, you knew it was going in the moment it left his foot and there was no keeper who could stop it. He got a rest towards the end with Neco Williams coming on to replace him and what a Premier League debut he had, his movement on and off the ball and the desire to get forward and create was great to see and it makes me excited for the future talent coming through at the club.

Fabulous Fabinho

Fabinho was by far the best player for us tonight. Every single one of them played brilliantly but Fabinho really stood out tonight. He was first to every single ball, he was able to break up play in between the defence and midfield and is the perfect shield for our backline and then his goal was out of this world, as soon as it left his foot you knew exactly where it was going and that was the back of the net.

He isn’t just a good defensive midfielder, he is also a great attacking-minded player too. His pass for Mo Salah’s goal was sublime and just his drive to break up play and get the ball up the field again is amazing.

You can’t replace him in this team. We were linked with Thiago this morning who is an exceptional player and they play similar roles but I would not trade Fabinho for any other player in the world.

Two Points To Go

Two Points. Only two points away from Premier League champions.

That sentence is bizarre to type but it is so close now and I just want it finished. City play Chelsea tomorrow night and they HAVE to win in order to keep that little bit of pressure on us but Chelsea are a tough opponent so it will be interesting to see how Pep sets up tomorrow.

But, we should be focused on ourselves and be proud of how this team have performed this season. Immaculate in every way.

Two more points!
