An emphatic victory against Porto sets up Liverpool’s biggest clash of the season where pole position in the title race is on the line.
Tuesday’s win was the perfect way to put the Brentford game behind us. Of course, while the Bees created more ‘expected goals’ (xG), a lot of those chances were courtesy of ricochets, deflections and poor finishing from Liverpool.
The Reds need to take the game to Manchester City on Sunday, and goals from all of the front three in midweek should bode well heading into the game.

Here’s how we should line up:
Alisson starts in goal behind an unchanged back four. The early reports suggest that Trent won’t be available for this one, while there’s no need to change anywhere else.
No changes in midfield either after a stellar performance from Curtis Jones. The 20-year-old has given Jurgen Klopp a problem for when the likes of Thiago and Keita return.
One change upfront sees Roberto Firmino come in for Diogo Jota. In a more open game, Firmino flourishes as we saw against Porto who had to attack by the time the Brazilian was introduced. Jota, on the other hand, is a strong option from the bench or if Klopp looked to deploy a 4-2-3-1 system.
City are coming off a defeat against PSG which should mean they’re not full of confidence going into this one, but this game will be tight as always. It’s looking like another nail-biting Premier League tie for the Reds; this time with a slightly better result. I think the Reds will edge this one 2-1 after taking a two-goal lead in front of the Anfield crowd.
Score prediction: Liverpool 2 – 1 Manchester City
