Was tempted to just write 5-2 and be done with it but obviously I can’t do that.
Mo Salah
I talked about him in my Looking Ahead to Liverpool vs Roma piece on Monday and spoke about how he will be looking to get one over on his old teammates and he did just that. 43 goals this season for the Egyptian means he has over taken Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for goals scored this season and he looks like he’s going to be breaking Ian Rush record of 47 goals.
There are no words left to describe Salah and last night just proved what a magnificent player he has been for us. Sometimes when footballers play against their old team they will either sit back and just go with the flow of the game because they have too much respect for their old fans and don’t really make an impact in the game and there are times when players show the fans what they are missing and Salah did just that, yes he still has a lot of respect for the club and you could see that in the build-up to the game and the way he celebrated last night but that didn’t stop him from scoring two incredible goals.
James Milner James Milner broke a record last night in the Champions League. He now has the most assists in a season in the history of the competition. In my opinion he has been one of our best players over recent weeks and deserves all the praise he gets, handball aside (which was harshly given) he puts in a shift every match and never stops running, he puts in tackles, makes runs off the ball to help the forward line out, and is always looking to see where the next move can be made. Rumours are circling that he will be offered a new contract in the summer and I would be made up if he signs on for another two years as he is a great asset to have at the club.
Dzeko Delivers
I also spoke about Edin Dzeko in my piece on Monday and talked about how he would be the danger man for Roma last night and he was. He was quiet for majority of the game and didn’t really have many chances but as soon as he got given one he took it and he finished it well. That then got the Roma players back into the game and they bombarded us for the rest of the match later earning the penalty that gives them the two away goals.
Best team in Europe at the moment?Forget about the two away goals and just look at the performance we put in last night. A Champions League semi-final and we scored five goals against a very good Roma side, it took us until 35 minutes to get the ball rolling but once we started to find our rhythm and break down the Roma defence they just couldn’t stop us. It should have been 5-0 at half time with the two chances Mane had, Firmino shot just skimming the goal and Lovren’s header hitting the bar but all in all it was a fantastic performance from the Reds and I have no doubt that we will be scoring in the away leg next week.
