Liverpool beat West Ham 4-0 in their first game of the 2018/19 season today and here are all the things we learned about the match.
Alisson didn’t have much to do
The new signing had his first taste of Premier League football today and I think he’ll be hoping all of our games are like that this season. The keeper did not have very much to do across the 90 minutes, a few crosses and corners here and there and a few rogue shots but they where all comfortable enough for the Brazilian.
Not every game will be like this for him and once the season progresses and he begins to face tougher opposition we’ll be able to see how he deals with the Premier League.
That Man Mo
I had a bet that Sadio Mane would score the first goal of the game but Mo Salah rained on my parade. The Egyptian king got his season up and running from right where he left off last year and it only took him 19 minutes to do so. He had a load of other chances throughout the game but only came away with the one goal.
I’m sure the forward will be hitting the heights he did last year and there is no doubt he will be top scorer for us this year and may even manage to break that record of 50goals in one season…
Oh Mane Mane
A lot of talk about how Salah will be perform this season but I think Mane will be star player for us this year. The winger got on the scoresheet twice today and was a threat throughout the game. The new number 10 will be wanting to show fans that he can challenge with Mo for top scorer this year and I have no doubt the new number 10 will be unstoppable this year.
Naby Keita could be the signing of the season
Every pass, every tackle, every touch was brilliant from the midfielder today and with a lot of expectation on his shoulders today, he certainly didn’t let us down.
He seemed comfortable on the ball and did not look like the new signing, he slot in perfectly in midfield and then filled the gap on the left when Roberto Firmino went off and didn’t look out of place. Every fan was buzzing about this signing and couldn’t wait to see him in the red shirt and now that he is here, we never want him to leave.
Milner Masterclass
Despite being one of the oldest players on the pitch, James Milner was everywhere today.
The lad did not stop running and he was involved in every passage of play. He looked like he was playing in every position today too and put in an outstanding performance which makes it tough to pick between him and Wijnaldum for my man of the match today. It was hard to see where Milner would fit in this season with the newcomers of Keita and Fabinho as well as Henderson, Lallana, Wijnaldum, Shaqiri all in the mix but he has definitley shown Klopp why he deserves to be in the team.
