Liverpool FC Women were unable to get a positive result out of their match against Manchester City. With a history-making brace from Nikita Parris and a Niamh Fahey own goal, the visitors return home with all three points. There was end-to-end action at Prenton Park but Manchester City made easy work of securing the victory. Liverpool kept the visitors at bay for the first 45 minutes but the Blues comfortably claimed the win in the second half.An early substitution saw Niamh Charles make way for Kirsty Linnett – whether the forward picked up a knock during play is yet to be announced.Devastating scenes during stoppage time saw Man City’s Keira Walsh stretchered off. The recently called-up England international went to ground after a tussle for the ball with Rinsola Babajide. The severity of the injury is still unknown but the 21-year-old was in considerable pain and distress.Line-ups Anke Preuß took the place of Fran Kitching between the sticks, proving her worth with some superb stops. Three other changes were also made to the team sheet.Jess Clarke sat the game out on the sidelines, seeing Yana Danïels fill in for her. Niamh Charles and Christie Murray also returned to the starting XI, to accommodate Fahey’s shift into defence. Ex-Liverpool players Gemma Bonner and Caroline Weir both featured against their former club.Putting up a fightJust five minutes into the second half, Man City took the lead. A shot from Weir deflected off Fahey who put it past her own goalkeeper. England international Nikita Parris netted City’s second and third goals, becoming the highest scorer in WSL history. The forward was a thorn in the side for Liverpool.Although City created a lot of pressure, the Reds certainly didn’t drop their heads. Intense pressing from Linnett almost cost Ellie Roebuck a goal as she nicked the ball off the ‘keeper’s toes. Babajide and Laura Coombs were also key players going forward.Their speed on the counter-attack meant City had to work especially hard to close down the threat. Sophie Bradley-Auckland put in a stand-out performance in defence. The captain was responsible for several crucial interceptions and blocks, including a powerful header to clear a Weir free-kick.Going forward Both Liverpool and Man City remain in their respective places in the WSL table. After another Arsenal win, City are no closer to catching the leaders who are three points ahead. Chelsea delivered a winning performance against West Ham meaning their advantage on the Reds is now up to four points.Vicky Jepson’s side have now lost four games and won just three. Their efforts so far, however keep them in fifth place in the table. Liverpool’s upcoming fixture will be away from home to Bristol City, who are just one point behind them.Article by @LFCGeorgia ???? 16+ PODCASTS P/MONTH ???? 12+ SHOWS P/MONTH ✍ DAILY ARTICLES INC ‘SPECIAL GUEST WRITERS’ ⭐ EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEWS – INC JURGEN KLOPP! ???? Pre and Post Match Shows
