Liverpool is out of the FA Cup after being beat by three goals to two by Man United.

A Better Performance

Not the result we wanted this evening but a much better performance compared to recent games. I thought we played well throughout the game, Man United had their moments and took their chances very well when given the opportunity but Liverpool had some really bright moments also.

Mo Salah added two more to his goal tally this season and it was two great finishes. The first goal was a great pass from Roberto Firmino to cut through two United players and allow Salah to pull off a lovely finish.

His second was again a great worked bit of play from Liverpool with James Milner pulling off the dummy to allow Mo to bring us back level. There were a few other positive moments in front of goal with Mo Salah almost completing a hat-trick and Milner missing a great chance just before the equaliser.

For me, that was the most important thing tonight, a win over Utd would have been nice but I was more interested in us performing better and grabbing some goals to help build the confidence back up and we managed to do that.

James Milner had a good game and I thought he was a welcomed change in midfield, he knows what these fixtures are like and he always gives 100% when on the pitch which is what you need in big games like this. He probably should have done better with his chance in the second half but I think the speed he was running at and the flight of the ball weren’t matched and he wasn’t able to get a good enough connection on it.

Trent Alexander-Arnold looked to show signs of his usual self with some nice bits of play but I think his defensive skills need to be picked up on. At times he was leaving Rhys Williams to exposed on the right which left plenty of space for Marcus Rashford to run in to and punish us at times.

Tottenham Up Next

A huge game against Tottenham Hotspur awaits us on Thursday night and it’s a great opportunity to put things right in the league again. Utd was a tough match but Spurs will be even tougher.

Let’s hope the players take the positives from today’s game and move forward with them rather than letting another defeat set them back even further.
