Man United v Liverpool | How Should Liverpool Line Up?

It all seemed to be going well before Crystal Palace snatched the lead, but there was always the feeling that the Reds would turn it around before the mammoth task presented itself as a result of Darwin Nunez’s moment of madness.

It’s an error Liverpool can’t have happen again, while it has also ensured that three points are vital on Monday night against Manchester United. Erik ten Hag’s side are rock bottom of the Premier League bottom at the moment, having endured an awful start to the season, and it’s something Jurgen Klopp must capitalise on, to ensure Manchester City aren’t allowed to run away with the league title.

Here’s how we should line up:

Adam’s XI: Alisson, Robertson, Virgil, Gomez, Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Henderson, Elliott, Diaz, Firmino, Salah.

One change to the back five sees Joe Gomez come in for Nat Phillips. There will always be a fondness for Phillips after his efforts in 2020, but it is clear there is some distance between him and Liverpool’s four best centre-backs right now. Even if Gomez is 75% fit, he should play on Monday night.

Fabinho starts in the six in a game where he normally dominates, and I’ve gone for Jordan Henderson for his pressing ability in the middle of the park. Much of the Reds’ success on Monday will be how well they can pick off United’s mistakes, and Henderson offers a strong balance alongside Harvey Elliott who shined against Palace.

News that Roberto Firmino is back training comes at the perfect time. Firmino was unplayable last time round at Old Trafford, and he would have been the best option to start here, even if Darwin Nunez was available for selection. Luis Diaz returns to the side after his wonder-goal, while Mohamed Salah continues on the right.

There is hope that three points will be supported by the squad slowly rejuvenating after an injury circus to start the season, and that will be the perfect boost in a game that will hopefully see another Manchester United mass walk-out.

Score prediction: Manchester United 0 – 3 Liverpool
