As The Reds continue the celebrations after a 5-0 victory at Old Trafford, for the players, it’s time to get switched back on for another round of the EFL Cup.
The squad depth Klopp has at his disposal (when fit) is enough to win the competition with the help of a reasonable draw, which means we can expect changes across the XI in this one.
Here’s how we should line up:
With Kelleher likely to be out for this one as confirmed by Pep Lijnders, Adrian comes in for Alisson behind a back four that could comfortably compete in the Premier League. Gomez looks certain to start while it’s between Matip and Konate for the second slot. I’m going with Konate for this one, with Matip set to return against Brighton at the weekend. Tsimikas and Neco Williams complete the defence.
No Fabinho until the weekend means Tyler Morton comes into the number six role with no need to overplay Jordan Henderson. The youngster played well last time out against Norwich and should be comfortable here against Championship opposition. Jones and Oxlade-Chamberlain start in a midfield that picks itself with Naby Keita, James Milner and Thiago out of action.
Sadio Mane should start with Origi and Minamino, but I’d like to see him taken off around the hour mark to preserve him for the Brighton game. Jota is a strong option from the bench to play the last 30 minutes.
Preston will be up for this one, though a strong second string XI should be too much to deal with for the Championship side currently placed 19th as we head into the game.
Score prediction: Preston 0 – 4 Liverpool
