Starting XI: How should Liverpool line up against Arsenal?
After Patrick Vieira helped Liverpool in their quest for the Premier League title on Monday, it is now his former club that the Reds must get past to close the gap by another two points
The Reds could be just one point behind Manchester City by the final whistle on Wednesday night, and that’s with a potential season-defining trip on the horizon at the Etihad Stadium.
While Arsenal are in-form at the moment, that should play into Liverpool’s hands as they come up against a side who will want to keep playing the same way rather than sit in and park the bus.
Here’s how we should line up:
It’s full strength for this one as Alisson starts behind a back four of Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. It wouldn’t be disappointing to see Ibrahima Konate start either, but I think Matip’s form in recent weeks has earned him the spot in Klopp’s best XI.
Fabinho and Thiago start in midfield in what is always a reassuring sight for Liverpool fan. Naby Keita could be a strong option, though Jordan Henderson is also in fine form, and he could be needed in a physical midfield battle against Thomas Partey.
Diogo Jota enjoys playing against Arsenal, so he should come back in for this one. Sadio Mane starts on the left flank while Mohamed Salah completes the line up on the opposite side. Luis Diaz will be a dangerous option off the bench around the hour-mark if the game is still level.
Liverpool should be able to get the three points in this one in what should be an attacking game on a Wednesday evening. Arsenal have struggled in previous meetings to create chances, and that story will hopefully continue with the Reds’ defence in full strength.
Score prediction: Arsenal 0 – 3 Liverpool
