Liverpool are through to the final of the Club World Cup 2019, but only just. A hard fought game in which Liverpool lacked creativity and fluidity for large parts. To be fair to Monterrey, they caused problems and were unlucky not to be ahead.

The quality of Mane, Bobby and co proved to be too much and Bobby had the last say. Expect Liverpool to put out a much stronger side for the final!

Alisson – 9

Alisson was superb the whole game, a number of big crucial saves to keep Liverpool in the game. He was unlucky for the goal making an initial save but little he could do about the follow up.

Milner – 7

An ok performance from Milner. Fulfilled his duties but was also caught out by Monterrey’s pace on several occasions. Doesn’t provide the same as Trent but he wasn’t terrible.

Gomez  – 7

Again, not shite but was lucky to be on the pitch. Still haven’t seen it back but a long punt up field and he had no idea where the ball or the man was.

Hendo – 6.5

Not his natural position, he’s been asked to fill in, I think he deserves credit for that. He was able to pick the ball up deep and spread it to the flanks but can’t be expected to defend like others.

Robbo – 7

Required at the back much more than usual and his game is also hindered with Origi and Shaqiri in front of him. There just isn’t the same fluidity as you get with Mane.

Lallana – 6

Difficult to judge Adam as I don’t really expect that much from him,  or certainly not the same when Hendo, Fabinho play the deeper role. Nothing of note to write home about.

Keita – 8

The only other stand out performer for me. Picked up the ball, drove at the opposition and looked like the only one who might create something, another goal in the bag for him and another soild effort.

Ox – 7

He didn’t struggle to get in the game but he did struggle to link up with the front three, a mixture of hard lines and Monterrey shutting out options.

Shaqiri – 5

5 might seem harsh but he just didn’t get involved. He was out left for the first half and he struggled to get on the ball, defensively he could have helped out a bit more too.

Salah – 7

Like most of the front three Salah found it difficult to have any real affect on the game. Crowded out for large periods and dispossessed countless times. Salah always provides a threat and he did so by setting up Keita.

Origi – 6

Probably on the ball more than any of the other front three but looked like he didn’t know what to do with it. Some nice step-overs and intricate play but no real end product.

Subs

Mane – 7.5

Provided some drive and impetuous to penetrate opposition lines, pulled people out of positon and was a danger from the second he stepped on the pitch.

Trent – 7

Wasn’t on long but supplies the killer pass which can be lethal in attack.

Bobby – 7

Hardly had a touch and really wasn’t on that long but pops up with a glorious winner in the last minute to send Liverpool into the final!
