It seems like a decade has passed since Liverpool last played in the Premier League, but football returns in what will be the last run before World Cup preparations for Qatar begin.

The Reds have benefitted more than most from the extended break, with an injury crisis taking hold of Jurgen Klopp’s squad to start the season. Ibrahima Konate is one of the players who recently returned to training, and while he isn’t ready to start just yet, his return is a welcome boost to a centre-back core that hasn’t found best form yet.

Meanwhile, Diogo Jota managed to get on the scoresheet for Portugal during the international break, a player who needed fitness before the break, nd that should ease the pressure off Luis Diaz on the left flank.

Here’s how we should line up:

Alisson starts in goal behind a back four that will include Kostas Tsimikas with Andy Robertson ruled out. Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip occupy the centre-back positions with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who didn’t feature for England during the international break, at right-back.

Fabinho starts in the six behind, of course, Thiago Alcantara. The midfield maestro has provided a welcome boost to Liverpool’s squad since returning, and he could be crucial as Klopp looks to navigate towards the top of the table. Harvey Elliott keeps his place in midfield.

A goal for Darwin Nunez on international duty provides a good opportunity for him to get into scoring form for the Reds, and Klopp should take advantage of that against a Brighton side who could be frustrating defensively. Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah maintain their place on the flanks, with Diogo Jota and Robeto Firmino ready to come in if a change of approach is needed late-on.

Score prediction: Liverpool 2 – 0 Brighton
