On this day in 2016 Liverpool beat Everton 4-0 at Anfield in the 226thMerseyside Derby. Goals from Divock Origi, Mamadou Sakho, Daniel Sturridge and Philipe Coutinho sent Liverpool sailing to victory.
The Reds unbeaten run against Everton at Anfield was stretched to 17 years that night. Divock Origi opened the scoring with a header on the 43rdminute meaning he had now scored five goals in five matches for the Reds, Sakho added the second, also a header, on the 45thminute meaning the Reds went into half-time with a two goal lead.
The second half got off to a bad start after Origi was victim to a terrible tackle from Ramero Funes Mori who was sent off for the challenge that left the Belgian forward out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury. Daniel Sturridge replaced Origi and he got on the scoresheet in the 61stminute. The fourth was added from a curling shot by Coutinho in the 76thminute leaving Everton shocked and embarrassed.
Liverpool finished the match with 37 shots on goal, 13 of them on target, while Everton only registered three shots with all of them going wide.
