A bit of a different article this week as this time we’re going to focus on the opposition rather than the Reds. We’re going to look at what I think their predicted XI will be, who their star player is and a bit about the manager.
When: Monday night at 8pm on Sky Sports
Where: Selhurst Park
Last six meetings: Crystal Palace W1 Liverpool W5Predicted Line-Ups
Crystal Palace: Hennessey, Wan-Bissaka, Tomkins, Sakho, Van Aanholt, Milivojevic, McArthur, Townsend, Zaha, Schlupp, Benteke
Unavailable: Scott Dann (Injured)
Suspensions: 0
Top Scorer: Wilfried Zaha (1) Jeffrey Schlupp (1)
Top Assists: Wan-Bissaka (1) Patrick Van Aanholt (1)
In their game against Fulham last weekend they managed 12 shots with 10 of them on target. Had 33% possession compared to Fulham 67%, managed 345 passes compared to Fulham 671. It just goes to show that you can dominate a game but still come out as the loser.
Star Player: Wilfried Zaha
No one can even debate on this.
The 25-year-old has just signed a new long term deal at Palace which keeps him at the club until 2023. He has been their stand out performer for a few seasons now and having been involved with the club since 2004, he is no doubt the fans favourite.
He’s a very skilful player and likes to dribble with the ball, he is not afraid to take on the opposition and will take a shot on goal. Last season he scored 9 goals in 29 appearances and was linked with Liverpool in the summer transfer window and I’m sure a lot of us would have liked to have seen him in our squad but he is Crystal Palace through and through and has shown that by committing his future to the team.
Manager: Roy Hodgson
Oh Roy.
His time with Liverpool definitely isn’t something we look back fondly on but he seems to be doing an alright job at Palace. In a total of 31 games being Palace manager he has won 13, Drawn 6 and lost 12 which averages at a 41.94% win rate. That’s alright I suppose and he managed to keep them up last season after it looked certain they would be going down.
In his time as a manager he has faced Liverpool 11 times, winning 3 games, drawing 4 and losing 4 which is an average 1.18 points per game.
Liverpool:
Alisson, TAA, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Milner, Keita, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mane
Unavailable: Lovren (Injured) Oxlade-Chamberlain (Injured) Mignolet (Rested)
Suspension: 0
Top Scorer: Sadio Mane (2)
Top Assists: Robertson (1) Milner (1) Firmino (1)
Joel Matip may feature having returned to training and played 60 minutes in a game at Melwood during the week but not sure yet.
