Liverpool completed their first transfer of the Andoni Iraola era last week when they swooped in to land Victor Munoz from Osasuna, paying the £34.5m release clause to the Spanish club and gazumping Newcastle United in the process.
Currently with the Spain squad at the World Cup, the journey to Anfield and indeed stardom hasn’t been an obvious one for the 22-year-old. Having initially been released from Barcelona’s famed La Masia, Munoz joined La Fábrica, Real Madrid’s renowned youth development system. From there, the dynamic young winger made his way to the first team, representing the Spanish giants on four occasions before leaving for Pamplona.
To gain a deeper understanding of Muñoz’s journey, playing style and prospects, we spoke with a La Fábrica expert, Sistema Blanco, who has closely followed his progression through Real’s academy system…
Every Osasuna Fan Is GUTTED!
Transfer: “Victor was a top priority for Andoni Iraola due to his specific profile. It is a very similar move to what Iraola did at Bournemouth, showing his clear preference for young, dynamic, and explosive Spanish talents who can impact the game immediately.”
Playing Style: “He is a dynamic, highly technical, and vertical winger. He excels in 1v1 situations and loves to drive forward with pace.”
Key Strengths: “Great dribbling, excellent vision for crosses, and a high work rate. He is aggressive in pressing, which fits Iraola’s high-tempo system.”
Position: “He mostly operated on the right wing [at Real Madrid] but is versatile enough to cut inside or play on the left if needed.”
What to Expect: “He is a thrilling talent with huge potential. Settling into the Premier League’s physical tempo will be his main challenge, but he definitely has the quality to succeed under Iraola.”
Success: “With Iraola and Víctor Muñoz, you’re going to have a great time. Víctor is one of the fastest players in all the leagues. I was able to enjoy him at Castilla a couple of years ago, and this season he’s really broken through. He has a lot of potential.”
Victor Munoz is a PERFECT fit for Iraola’s Liverpool!
Despite the relatively surprising nature of the transfer, this is certainly one to be optimistic about, with Munoz seemingly on the way to becoming a top player and with plenty of room still left to develop further.
Couple the potential with Iraola’s track record of improving players, Reds can be hopeful that the low fee will eventually prove to be a bargain in years to come.

Technically our second signing of the summer (after Jermey Jacquet) but for all intents and purposes, our first signing of the summer is Victor Muňoz. The lads put him under the microscope on this episode and compare him with the incumbent Cody Gakpo.

Newcastle Lose Another Target As Liverpool Snare Talented Attacker
After our disappointing Premier League title defence campaign in the 2025/26 season, it has been quite a busy summer for Liverpool based on what we have seen from others during the off season so far.
With most eyes on the World Cup distraction taking place in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico, our board moved quick and we have already seen the departure of former manager Arne Slot, and he has been replaced by AFC Bournemouth gaffer Andoni Iraola. With renewed confidence amongst loyal Anfield regulars there is already good reason to cast an eye towards those players that we will freshen the group up with after last season’s struggles as the new gaffer will want a few of his own players in.
With news this week that we have already concluded negotiations for highly rated Spanish winger Victor Munoz, there are questions to be asked about whether or not this was more a board driven capture when you consider how long we have now been linked with him, but it does seem that Iraola was very much on board with getting it over the line sooner rather than later. Target wise we have again big at a private bitcoin casino as Iraola has also given his backing to the news that we made another move for long term target, RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande – although negotiations are not yet concluded on that front.
22 year old Munoz made his international debut back in March and is more than capable of playing on both flanks. Fans will undoubtedly be watching on at the World Cup now given he did make their squad to see how he progresses. We completed the medical out in the States on Wednesday, and he will sign a six year deal with his £34.5 million release fee being paid to Osasuna in two instalments.
Having made the move to Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid, having come through Barcelona’s famed La Masia Academy, he joined Osasuna back in the summer of 2025 for just £5 million. Real had a 50% sell on clause and a matching fee option and even though they were back in for him, he apparently could not secure the minimum game time guarantees that he was after from the club and Jose Mourinho, so he rejected them as a non starter in terms of his options.
It was heavily stated that Newcastle United were in for him and it seemed that they were quite confident that they would sign him even just earlier this week with advanced talks taking place. Obviously he would be Anthony Gordon’s replacement following his bizarre move to Barcelona, but we have seemingly jumped in quick again and just agreed to meet his clause to get the deal done.
With the transfer now announced, he officially becomes Liverpool’s and Iraola’s first capture of the summer window, and it feels like he could again be the first of many given our business last summer, but from a numbers point of view nobody would be expecting us to be that busy again.
I guess that makes it three nil when you consider the recent moves of Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak.
