Liverpool youngster and U18s 2018-19 captain Paul Glatzel has just recently signed a contract with the reds on a long-term deal. He shwoed his face briefly in Liverpool’s pre-season making a couple of appearances before ultimately getting injured against Tranmere Rovers after only playing for a few minutes.

Despite this, Jurgen has signed the youngster up on a long-term deal and Glatzel has said “it’s a great feeling and it shows that the club has got faith in me”. Here’s some info on Paul Glatzel.

His parents are from Germany but they moved to Merseyside and Paul was born and bred, the rest of his family are German so he can speak the language which could be a help when he plays for the first team.

The captain of the U18s has struck up a good partnership with ex-Liverpool prospect Bobby Duncan up top with 29 goals and 8 assists between them in 21 games last season. Bobby Duncan was also key in the U18s victory over Manchester City in the FA Youth Cup Final after he scored a 25 yard equaliser, which lead to Glatzel lifting that trophy after a penalty shootout in which Glatzel scored the 5th and winning penalty.

Glatzel signed for Liverpool at the under 6s level at the Youth Academy after being scouted during a match for his football team at that time. He signed for Liverpool in 2007 and has been playing there since as a striker. Unlike Brewster, Glatzel has been a one club man all his life and will probably continue this after signing this contract at Anfield.

When Gerrard first returned to Liverpool to manage the youth teams, Glatzel played under him and said that “he is a role model for the club and you look up to him”. However, during his time of being coached by Stevie G he was injured for most of it with a broken leg. When he came back from that injury he managed to injure his hamstring too and then struggled to get back to full fitness again. Then he returned to match fitness for last season in the end.

Last season was a strong season for Glatzel, showing the capability to captain a side and the ability to link up play with an attacking partner. But as you may know 78 minutes into a pre-season friendly against Tranmere Glatzel picked up a knee problem and cut his pre-season short.

Klopp has said that “Paul Glatzel got seriously injured, which is a shame. He is a wonderful kid, a wonderful player, unbelievable.” which does show that Glatzel has got the potential to be special but has his injury proneness halted what could’ve been his breakout season? Time will tell…
