On this day in 2001, former Liverpool player Michael Owen was named footballer of the year, winning the coveted Ballon d’Or. 

A player committing the ultimate crime within the footballing world, betraying Liverpool with his move to rival club Manchester United, there are mixed feelings amongst Liverpool fans towards Owen.
