KRC Genk midfielder Bilal El Khannous has gained interest from several European clubs in recent months, with Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur all sending scouts to see the 19-year-old Moroccan.

Dutch outlet Voetbalkrant reports that Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig are also interested in the attacking midfielder and the two German clubs appear to be the two most concrete options for El Khannous, however, the idea of the premier league may be great enough to sway El Khannous over to Liverpool.

Voetbalkrant reports that Genk may not be fully convinced of a price for the midfielder, providing Liverpool an opportunity to make an offer ‘too good to refuse’ for Genk.

Is Liverpool’s Title Challenge Over?

El Khannous has already made 12 appearances for Morocco as well as 44 appearances this season alone for Genk, proving that he is definitely ready for first-team football. The Moroccan attacking midfielder has boasted 11 goal contributions so far this season, offering drive and an offensive threat from midfield, providing an alternate option for Dominik Szoboszlai. When trusted in the advanced playmaker role, El Khannous orchestrates the game with great passing ability and vision.

He also excels in his dribbling capabilities and his long powerful runs. Despite his age, his progressive play is on par with that of a seasoned pro and in a team like Liverpool, a team that dominates games, he would have the opportunity to run games for years to come.

The teenager still has three years left on his contract at Genk meaning a credible offer for him would be necessary to ensure his signature. However, if Liverpool do want El Khannous they must act fast as Voetbalkrant also believes that RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen are ready to land the teenager as soon as the Belgian outfit allows it. The Moroccan may even be gone by the first week of the summer window.

Much of the summer transfer business will still depend on who replaces Jurgen Klopp at the helm and the system, style and personnel they would prefer to implement at Anfield.

That said, at 19, El Khannous – who was described as a ‘pleasure to watch’ by technical director Dimitri De Condé – would be a smart acquisition for Liverpool regardless of who was in the dugout and therefore should be watched closely as the transfer window creeps closer.
