Or a loan move to a Premier League club? In my opinion, this is the most likely scenario and would probably be the best move for Brewster this season. I don’t doubt his ability from a goalscoring perspective but the youngster still has a lot to learn and I feel in order for him to do that, he needs regular game time at the highest level. Sheffield United and Brighton are two rumoured clubs interested in Brewster and I feel both may be good options for the young Englishman. We saw last season at times, Klopp would play Rhian through the middle, which is a complex role to fill in that false nine position under Jurgen Klopp, attempting to emulate the masterful work of Bobby Firming. Brewster is more of a ‘typical’ number nine. He’s a natural goalscorer, a born goalscorer constantly finding himself getting into the best position to convert opportunities. The polar opposite of Bobby Firmino, who is selfless and often finds himself in positions where he creates goals or space for team mates to score. I personally feel as though long-term, in our current system, Brewster may fit better in Mo Salah’s role out wide. Much like Salah, Brewster is a proven goalscorer so that role may be more natural for him and worth exploring if he were to stay at LFC. We often see Klopp trying Origi and Ox out wide when Salah or Mane are rested and it often doesn’t work, so Brewster may end up being a good option for us on the wing. Nonetheless, if Brewster is to play through the middle for LFC going forwards, he still has some learning to do and the game time he needs is hard to get when you are competing with the best front three in the world. Sheffield United impressed many in their return to the Premier league last season with their unique style and I personally wouldn’t be against seeing Brewster on loan there. Chris Wilder is a magnificent coach who he can learn from and LFC will be able to monitor Brewster’s progress carefully. Sheffield United are also a very impressive tactical side both defensively and offensively so it would be a good destination for Rhian Brewster to learn. If Brewster does go out on loan though, I’d like to think the club would demand assurances that Brewster would have regular game time. Woodburn rarely played during his loan move to Sheffield United when they were in the Championship and the main reason we’d be sending Brewster somewhere on loan is to make sure the youngster gets regular minutes. All eyes will be on the Community Shield on Saturday, where Rhian Brewster is expected to play a part. After the game, Brewster heads off on international duty with England’s Under 21’s before a decision will be made on where he will spend this season… Up the Reds! Jack Gill
