Liverpool gets back to winning ways after beating Sheffield United by two goals to nil at Bramall Lane.
Back To Winning Ways
A really important win for Liverpool tonight after what has been a difficult period for the team over the last couple of weeks and it was a good performance from the team which was needed.
Adrian wasn’t troubled too much in goal tonight but when called upon he did his job well. He’s had a bit of stick this season but when called upon he handled himself well and didn’t look out of place in what is his first Premier League game since October.
A crucial clean sheet for the defenders tonight too, an 18th centre-back pairing for Liverpool tonight and none of us would have expected that Ozan Kabak and Nat Phillips would be playing alongside each other at all this season but they had a bit of time against Everton together and a full 90 minutes with each other tonight and both of them did a solid job.
The midfield three of Gini Wijnaldum, Thiago, and Curtis Jones played very well tonight too.

Aaron Ramsdale looked set to have his best performance of the season so far tonight against Liverpool, first to everything, quick off his line, and made some great saves to deny a few attempts in the first half that could have left us 4-0 up at half-time. It looked set to be one of those nights but Curtis Jones broke the deadlock with a very well-finished goal. Roberto Firmino makes it two with some tricky feet in the box and a lucky deflection off the defender that allows the ball to loop up and over Ramsdale.
Firmino needs to have more confidence in himself going forward, I think he prefers to assist and create opportunities for others sometimes rather than get the accolade himself. He finds himself in a lot of good positions but always looks to make the wrong decision, not sure if that’s a confidence thing for him or if he genuinely wants others to score. Who knows, but i’d like to see him take more opportunities.
Curtis Jones is an exceptional young footballer and he’s showing his talent on the pitch with some great performances this season. A fourth straight start for Jones tonight and he has been a crucial player in the midfield for us this season, he has a big influence on the game and he’s going to be a real asset for this Liverpool squad going forward.
Chelsea Up Next
A big game on Thursday night against Chelsea at Anfield and an opportunity to work our way up the table with a win. Not sure what the team selection will be or if Fabinho or Diogo Jota will be back in the team. I’d be interested to know who you would want to partner Fabinho in defence if he plays there’s out of Phillips and Kabak? Maybe start the centre-back pairing of tonight and play Fabinho in midfield? It’s an option available to us now.
