This epic title race between two magnificent teams will be decided on the final day after Klopp’s men make an epic comeback against Southampton. It may have been a makeshift team today, but the boys played their hearts out to secure a crucial 3 points which might just play a huge part in securing the title.
Alisson – 7
The Brazilian made some crucial stop today including a great save against Broja in the opening 10 minutes. He was unlucky with Redmond’s shot that wickedly deflected off Milner but managed to keep Southampton out for the rest of the game with some assertive keeping.
Tsimikas – 6
It wasn’t the most confident performance today from Tsimikas, he looked a little lost in attack but that can be put down to the makeshift team rather than a poor display. Maybe my standards are a little high for the Greek international who knows but he seemed a little off the mark today.
Konate – 7
Him and Matip worked well together today, it can be hard to replace Van Dijk but these two provide excellent cover at the back. Despite not keeping a clean sheet, Konate was strong, confident and overall infallible today.
Matip – 8
What a header! Joel leaps and he scores. The Cameroonian was also a rock at the back and played great today, not having Virgil by your side must be nerve wracking especially against a side like Southampton, but Matip looked unpanicked. He had some well worked battles with Broja, Tella and Redmond throughout the game but handled them calmly.
Gomez – 7
He got into some great attacking positions today but lacked the confidence in his crosses and dribbles forward a lot of the time. However, one cross that didn’t lack venom was the ball played into Jota that led to Minamino’s goal, you can see that Joe has been watching clips of Trent with a ball like that.
Milner – 7
The so called “Brexit midfielder” did his job today and he did it outstandingly. Despite his age he kept up with everyone on the pitch and then some, if you need a man to put in some crunching tackles and whip in an excellent cross seconds later then Milner’s your man.
Elliott – 6
Elliott struggled today but that is down to lack of game time not a lack of quality. We all know Harvey is one of the best youngsters in the league and today he should be praised by helping us grab the 3 points rather than criticised for what was an expected underwhelming performance.
Jones – 6
Much like Elliott, Jones struggled today. He often opted for tricks over pragmatism and shot from positions that the keeper would have been laughing at when the ball loosely trailed towards him. However, much like the rest of the team this is down to an awkward team and lack of minutes so let’s not be too harsh on the lad.
Jota – 7
A well worked ball towards Minamino grabbed Jota an assist today which might just revive his drop in form in recent games. An assist along with a decent performance like that will do wonders for his confidence and mindset after being left out of the team in recent weeks.
Firmino – 7
This man was everywhere tonight, if there was an inch of space free on the pitch then Bobby was filling it. You could see his urge to show his worth today in what is a tough Liverpool attack to fit into, he chased every ball and got stuck into every challenge he could. Classic Firmino.
Minamino – 9
When he starts, he tends to score, 7 in 8 before tonight’s game and now it’s 8 in 9. What a fantastic strike that was! Smashes it into the top right leaving Mccarthy with no chance, Minamino truly is an unsung hero in this Liverpool squad.
Henderson – 8
After Gomez picked up a knock, Henderson came on provided the much-needed defensive cover perfectly. He also glued the team together, allowing everyone to push up, dominate and eventually pick up the 3 points.
Origi – 7
A man who is known for his late goals came on and started brightly but gradually faded into the background as the game went on.
Keita – N/A
