The way Liverpool responded against Burnley was impressive. Lallana’s inclusion sparked debate, but also ignited the return of Jurgen Klopp’s counter-pressing.
Wednesday’s tie away in Munich is interesting, not least because of the exits from Real Madrid, PSG, and potentially Juventus. A win for the Reds could begin a European run from a competition which has been (unusually) our secondary focus this season.
The away goals rule gives Liverpool the advantage, but we can’t dismiss Bayern. The German champions have rediscovered their form in the league, scoring 11 goals from 39 shots in their previous two matches.
With an impending fast start from the German’s attack, the Reds must utilise their strengths on the counter, just as we saw against Porto last season.

It’s important to keep a settled back five. Matip waited for his chance at the start of the season and has taken it with strong, consistent performances.
Klopp shouldn’t tinker too much with the side in this one. Fabinho and Wijnaldum start in midfield, with the only question mark being who starts with them in the midfield three?
Adam Lallana’s performance merits a start, but it’s too much of a risk to play twice in four days when just returning from an injury. Keita or Milner have to start here; I’ve gone for Keita with his experience in the Bundesliga in mind.
The front three remains the same in a game which they should benefit from Bayern’s attacking style. This attack has another gear to go, and this will hopefully be the game where they move into it for the final stage of the season.
A score draw is enough, but Liverpool’s performance coming into this game is promising. Bayern’s attack will be difficult to contain as they come into the game in rhythm, but if the Reds can weather the early storm and take our opportunities on the counter-attack, we should be able to secure qualification.
