A big win was coming and it was Everton who were in line for one of the Reds better attacking displays of the season. Liverpool cut through the Blues defence with ease, with many key passes coming courtesy of the back four.  Most importantly, though, Klopp reinforced that this Liverpool squad is capable of stepping in when we need to rest starters.

This makes the selection for Bournemouth interesting, in a game where Sadio Mane and Wijnaldum could be given rests after two strong performances this week. Firmino and Salah will be fresh after not starting the Merseyside derby.

How should Liverpool line up?

Alisson should return after his red card was for handling the ball saw a one-game suspension served rather than three. The Brazilian starts behind the same back four which started against Everton, but the Reds must be careful of overplaying Trent and Robertson over the Christmas period.

Henderson should start from the six in a changed midfield with Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain. Klopp’s selection on Wednesday showed we can rely on the squad when the fixture list becomes congested.

The Egyptian king rules Bournemouth. Mo Salah provides shades of Luis Suarez against Norwich when he lines up against the Cherries which means he will be important for this one.

It’s time to rest Sadio Mane. Auditions from Origi and Shaqiri on Wednesday showed either could come in, but given Shaqiri’s inactivity recently, Divock is the stronger option to start from the left alongside Firmino.

Some fans will be unhappy with Gini and Sadio left out, but it’s important Klopp gives rest to players during this period. Fabinho is unavailable for the month which demands a more careful approach to managing fatigue within the squad.

Bournemouth have shown they can attack, but they will be outmatched by Liverpool’s firepower on Saturday afternoon.  A win puts the Reds 14 points clear of Manchester City with the Manchester derby taking place as the evening kick-off. Mind the gap.
