The European Super Cup comes as a slight distraction after Liverpool began the Premier League campaign with a 4-1 win over Norwich on Friday.

It feels like a pre-season friendly placed inside the competitive fixture schedule and the travelling to Turkey before a game against Southampton at the weekend isn’t ideal. The league has to be our priority which means Klopp can make some changes in Istanbul.

Alisson’s injury means Adrian will start in goal for the time being. The Brazilian goalkeeper is expected to be out for a few weeks despite fears circulating he was done for the season. One change in defence should see Joel Matip come back into the side – Liverpool must defend better than they did last time out.

Wednesday is an opportunity to see the progress of Keita and Ox for different reasons. A good performance could show exactly why the Reds didn’t go all out for a midfield target in the summer.

A flight home from Istanbul and two days rest before Liverpool kick-off against Southampton gives Klopp almost no time for preparation. Use the squad and start Divock Origi up front with support from a fresh Mane and relentless Mo Salah.

The way the Reds have attacked in their last two games provides confidence heading into this one. Chelsea will be dangerous opponents after their defeat at Old Trafford, but Liverpool should be able to secure the trophy.

Let’s get this Super Cup over with and continue the title challenge.

Score Prediction: Liverpool 3 – 1 Chelsea
