We were hopeful but, realistically, United weren’t going to get anything from City in their current form.
Liverpool can only keep winning games and Friday night against an already relegated Huddersfield side gives Klopp the chance to re-apply the pressure on Guardiola ahead of City’s meeting with Burnley.
If the league ends 98-97, then so be it. We’re competing with a side who have been under investigation for FFP by multiple governing bodies since March. Liverpool fans can be proud of this squad regardless of how the rest of the campaign plays out.

Here’s how I think we should line up against Huddersfield:
If Joe Gomez is going to come into the side, it’s at right-back with Barcelona in mind. Matip’s performances have been too good to drop the Cameroonian – even with Gomez’s impressive start to the season in mind.
Trent offers more going forward, Gomez offers more In defence – a useful option to have. This is a game where Gomez should either start and play 60 minutes or come on for the last 30. The star defender could be a vital asset if Klopp requires a more defensive approach against Barcelona.
Fabinho’s concussion concern means there will be uncertainty over the Brazilian, so Klopp should employ the same midfield against Huddersfield. Wijnaldum stays in the six, Henderson maintains his place more advanced.
The front three remains the same. Start strong and withdraw if we can get the game into a comfortable position for the last period.
There’s examples in history of teams at the bottom of the table getting results against title challengers; complacency must be avoided. At Anfield, there shouldn’t be any concerns about getting the result on Friday night if we apply the same intensity as shown against Cardiff.
Score prediction: Liverpool 4 – 0 Huddersfield
