Starting XI: How should Liverpool line up against Newcastle?

A 9-0 win that led to the very harsh sacking of Scott Parker, gives Liverpool the first three points of the season. Jurgen Klopp was due a big win at some point, and now the focus switches to building momentum as the Reds face a Newcastle side who have already taken points off Manchester City.

Darwin Nunez will remain in the stands for this one as he finishes off his suspension for his moment of madness against Crystal Palace, but Roberto Firmino’s performance on Saturday will hopefully see the Brazilian maintain form. Diogo Jota is edging closer to fitness, too.

Here’s how we should line up:

Adam’s XI: Alisson, Robertson, Virgil, Gomez, Trent, Fabinho, Henderson, Elliott, Diaz, Firmino, Salah.

While Joel Matip was back in training this week, it’s unlikely he will be ready just yet. The back four from the win against Bournemouth returns, though it wouldn’t be disappointing to see Kostas Tsimikas starting to give Andy Robertson a rest until the weekend.

I don’t think there should be any changes to the midfield either. While I suggested Fabio Carvalho should start against the Cherries, Jordan Henderson is much more important in a clash against a side who pose a much more dangerous threat. That sees Harvey Elliott and Fabinho maintain their place.

With Jota and Nunez not available for this one, there are no changes on the forward line either, with Luis Diaz, Roberto Firmino, and Mohamed Salah remaining Klopp’s best options until more players are available.

Liverpool must use the home crowd advantage in this one against a Newcastle side who have proven that they can now take results off the top sides on a regular basis. If the Reds get the first goal, I can see a hard-fought 3-0 victory that is completed late-on in the game when the Magpies are fighting to get back into the match.

Score prediction: Liverpool 3 – 0 Newcastle
