Starting XI: How should Liverpool line up against Wolves?

By Adam Brown (@AdamMNVi) A sunny spell in Budapest saw Liverpool once again cast aside any worries that Jurgen Klopp’s team had suddenly become bad players overnight. The Reds played exactly like the team we know. Nat Phillips saw The Redmen TV’s written piece on Kalidou Koulibaly and produced a performance in the mould of Virgil van Dijk. Fabinho played in midfield – and got Man of the Match. Not forgetting Thiago’s mercurial display. It’s refreshing, even just to say out-loud, Thiago is one season into a four-year contract. Anyway, Wolves are up next. It’s hard to imagine how Liverpool won’t look much better from this point after such a good display against Leipzig, but you could forgive Klopp for prioritising Europe from now on.

Here’s how we should line up: No changes in the back-line. Nat Phillips has been a stand-out performer this season and could well stay and fight for his place beyond this season. Of course, there will be interest in the Bolton Baresi, but it’s exciting to see how much he can develop under Klopp’s tuition. Fabinho starts in the six. Naby Keita comes in with Thiago in what should be a technical battle against a football-playing Wolves side. Current performances are beginning to form a selection headache amongst the Reds midfield core; Klopp could play any one of Curtis Jones or Wijnaldum and it would be hard not to feel confident of securing three points. It’s a good problem to have; and another sign that any ‘rebuild’ wouldn’t take much time or investment. Roberto Firmino could return this week and should start centrally if involved. Monday night’s game is a good chance to rest Salah with Jota looking sharp. Some predictions have been hopelessly optimistic at times, but Liverpool made a Leipzig side, who are just two points behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, look fairly average. That said, the Reds can hopefully take that form into Monday night to begin a top-four race which will require almost maximum points from the remaining games.
