After this season’s rollercoaster took yet another dip at the weekend in defeat against Leeds United, Liverpool return to Champions League action, where Jurgen Klopp has enjoyed better success this season.
The main aspect coming from Tuesday night’s clash will be not to suffer a defeat in the manner that the Reds endured in Naples, and much of that will depend on a resilient defensive performance against one of the in-form sides in Europe.
Here’s how we should line up: Formation 4-2-3-1
Alisson starts in goal with the match still an important one for morale despite Liverpool already being through to the next stages. Changes in defence see Kostas Tsimikas come in for Andy Robertson, who was a standout performer against Leeds. Ibrahima Konate starts with a good opportunity to get him some match fitness.
Jordan Henderson starts in defensive midfield alongside Curtis Jones. Jones has come under some criticism of late, but he is looking like a better fit for a deeper midfield role in recent weeks. Not to forget, he has also not long returned from an injury.
A rest for Mohamed Salah keeps him fresh for the weekend’s clash against Spurs, but a strong front four should see Roberto Firmino start in the 10 with Fabio Carvalho and Harvey Elliott on either side. Darwin Nunez keeps his place upfront.
Score prediction: Liverpool 3 – 2 Napoli
