Jorg Schmadtke has only been at Liverpool for a matter of months and despite early reservations, the transfers he has managed to pull off over the summer are looking incredible so far. At the beginning of the German’s tenure, it was announced that he would only be with the Reds for the summer transfer window.
As that time has passed, there are increasing whispers about who could be Jorg’s predecessor for the Sporting Director spot, especially about RB Leipzig SD, Max Eberl.
This week Dan is joined by Bundesliga commentator and journalist for the latest Expert Insight show, Constantine Eckner to discuss who that person might be, among other topics as well.
Liverpool Youngster Jarell Quansah Is OUTSTANDING This Season!
Constantin said:
“[Max Eberl] knows the transfer market. He knows everything in and out. He’s a bit different from Michael Edwards I think, but he’s closer to Edwards than Jorg Schmadtke was to Edwards.
“His biggest strength is being involved in the transfer market and knowing which players are available and knowing all their agents. He had a lot of success with Borussia Monchengladbach in the early 2010s, he needed to rebuild the team, and did it successfully, but the last two or the years he didn’t do the best job.
“I think he views Leipzig as more of a stepping stone. There is Bayern Munich who are interested in him … but there are too many people there. At Liverpool, he would be the one next to Jurgen Klopp.
“The only thing I am somewhat cautious about is that Max would be like a Klopp signing… If Klopp leaves and Max is still there? Another thing that might speak for Bayern and against Liverpool is that he came up through the youth academy at Bayern.”
Talking Through THAT Dominik Szoboszlai SCREAMER Against Leicester!
With the uncertainty surrounding Jorg’s future in the Sporting Director position at Liverpool, fingers are being pointed at alternatives for the coming season. Jorge’s signings thus far have been smashing it out of the park this season. From the likes of Szoboszlai to Mac Allister, the signings may prove that the German might be the guy to take the team to the next level in terms of signings.
However, having come out of retirement to take the role it seems unlikely he would want a long-term stay. Thus, Max Eberl seems to be a good alternative, due to his success at Monchengladbach and now Leipzig, who knows where his ceiling may be. Only time will tell whether Schmadtke signs a longer deal or we come to find the new face of the Sporting Director department…
