By Adam Brown (@AdamMNVi)Georginio Wijnaldum’s precise finish from outside the box against Wolves may be one of the last we see in a Liverpool shirt. As the days pass with no updates on a new deal, we get closer to the stage where a pre-contract can be agreed with another club. Unofficially, this could be something which has already taken place.A move to Barcelona makes the most sense. While Ronald Koeman is looking to create a Dutch revolution in Catalan country, the former Everton manager is also fighting for his job as pressure mounts after suffering defeat to Cadiz. A capitulating Barca who lay 9th in La Liga could be the only glimmer Liverpool fans have left to force a U-Turn on any plans Wijnaldum had to join up with the former Netherlands head coach. But the Dutch midfielder will have a plethora of options come January. Joining Liverpool from Newcastle for £25m in 2016, Gini was one of Jurgen Klopp’s first big-signings.The importance of the Reds’ number five has not always been appreciated. A modest goal-tally of 20 across five seasons wouldn’t indicate much to those not watching Liverpool regularly, but it’s relentless consistency and nights against Manchester City, Roma and Barcelona where the Feyenoord academy graduate shined that stand-out most.

Wijnaldum scored three times for Holland in November – a month where he also turned 30-years-old. The Dutch midfielder would be forgiven for feeling that it was time for a new challenge in his career. After all, what is left to achieve? Klopp’s side conquered Europe, and are the current World and Premier League champions.Recent performances are reflective of a player entering prime years. There isn’t a midfield in Europe where Wijnaldum wouldn’t shine, but there isn’t another club where he would be as revered as he is on Merseyside. Six months remain as the clock runs down on the former PSV Eindhoven star’s five-year contract. There is yet to be a decision, but why is it taking so long? When Thiago returns near the new year, Klopp could deploy one of Liverpool’s greatest midfield trios in history with Henderson and Wijnaldum. In terms of winning as many trophies as possible, Liverpool is the place to be.Gini has shined when needed most; especially amidst an injury plague which has seen multiple first-team players ruled out this season. Even if for one more year, a new deal would be a significant boost for the club, but the anxiety is difficult to ignore as uncertainty looms closer with every passing day without any sign of a new deal.By Adam Brown (@AdamMNVi)Do yo think Gini will stay?
