Liverpool are monitoring the availability of two Eredivisie stars…

During an appearance on The Redmen TV’s very own Transfer Insight show, Premier League-accredited journalist and 90min Football editor Jack Gallagher (@calciolovesjack) confirmed a number of names that are on the Reds’ radar this summer following recent reports from the outlet.

Our host Dan joked that Liverpool’s transfer list is somewhat resembling Schindler’s, as the Anfield club continues to be linked with some of Europe’s biggest stars, this week it’s PSV’s Ibrahim Sangare and Ajax’s Jurrien Timber.

Gallagher, who is also the editorial creative lead at 90min, confirmed that Arsenal and Manchester United representatives were also in attendance for Ajax’s trip to the Philips Stadion, in Eindhoven so it looks as if either team will have to fight for signatures.

Gallagher was optimistic about Liverpool’s chances of signing the Ivorian midfielder Sangare.

“He’s the sort of player that ticks all the right boxes for Liverpool, given their success in the Dutch market in January [after signing Gakpo]”

Sangare – who was described as ‘extraordinary’ by Aad de Mos – signed a new contract last season which keeps him at PSV until 2027, but there is a buyout clause of just £37million so it’s coming as no surprise that several Premier League clubs are sniffing around.

“I think all indications, particularly from PSV are that they are trying to move him on this summer, they think now’s the best time to get that release clause for him, while his market value is at an all-time high.”

Gallagher also spoke about another potential Eredivisie signing in Jurrien Timber who has been a long-term target of Manchester United since the arrival of Erik Ten Haag.

“I think the Manchester United move makes the most sense, given Ten Haag but since their attention will be set on signing a new striker I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Liverpool hijack the deal as they did with Gakpo”

Timber is a centre-back by trade and is regarded as one of the hottest prospects on Ajax’s books, what is also very interesting is that Timber can be deployed as a full back which is a tactical quirk Liverpool have been lacking since the injuries suffered by Joe Gomez.

Both names fit the bill for Liverpool, but Timber more so. The 21-year-old would be the perfect addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad, with defensive frailties that have been apparent throughout the season, and we know how injuries to the back line can escalate. The arrival of Timber would ensure we have enough defensive cover and could even lead to Klopp experimenting with a potential three at the back. Sangare would be a good swoop given the price tag but I think Liverpool should be looking at the upper echelons of European midfielders if they want to return to the top.
