With the transfer deadline still over a week away, we can expect to see more dealings being done across the 20 Premier League teams this summer. However, we have already seen a lot of movement, with many of the deals creating a range of emotions and body movements, including the raising of eyebrows, widening of eyes, and leaving fans excited about what the 2023/24 Premier League season may bring.
Although there has been a lot of noise from Saudi Arabia this summer as they continue to take a lot of the best talent the Premier League had to offer – including some of the best players that Liverpool had available to them – there has still been a number of major moves to have taken place across England’s top teams.
Clubs have continued to spend extreme amounts of money (Chelsea) on new player acquisitions as they each look to improve on the rosters that they had last season and better equip themselves to conquer their goals.
The Reds have been adding names to their team after seeing key men leave this summer, with Jurgen Klopp and fans desperate to see Liverpool improve on last year’s fifth-place finish and make a swift return to the UEFA Champions League, where the club belongs.
Although there are many signings to have been made – and still expected to be made – throughout this window, here are five of the top transfers to have been completed thus far this summer…
Moisés Caicedo
As Liverpool fans, this deal perhaps hurts a little as Moisés Caicedo looked set to go to the Reds at one point despite having been chased by Chelsea for the entire window. The Ecuadorian midfielder was even booked in for a medical, but he told the club he had no interest in joining them and only had eyes for the team that he supported as a youngster. It is a move that many have praised Chelsea for making, as the club’s midfield needed improving significantly. There had been many outgoings, but Caicedo’s arrival instantly boosted its strength. So much so that betting online agencies have enhanced the Blues’ odds of winning the Premier League following his arrival at Stamford Bridge for a fee of £115 million from Brighton.
Declan Rice
Declan Rice was another midfielder to have broken the £100 million transfer fee barrier this summer, as he moved from east to north London to join Arsenal from West Ham United. He is arguably one of the best deals to have been made this summer, with the Gunners likely to step up further in their quest to win the Premier League title. He will likely help to unlock the attacking unit in front of him with his ball-playing abilities, while also tightening up the midfield and offering his defence better protection. He is a natural leader, and that is something Mikel Arteta’s side will benefit from greatly this season.
Josko Gvardiol
One of the best defenders in the world, Josko Gvardiol, has finally arrived in the Premier League. However, unfortunately, it is for a team that was already almost impossible to defeat. The winner of the last season – Manchester City have spent around £77 million to make him the most expensive defender in history, and the Croatian is expected to make the backline even more difficult to break down. As a result of his signing, it is no surprise so many expect Pep Guardiola’s side to continue to dominate.
James Maddison
Although he arrived before Harry Kane’s departure, there is no doubt that James Maddison’s arrival at Tottenham is one of the best transfers this summer. The former Leicester City man is arguably one of the best playmakers in the Premier League (as is West Ham’s new boy James Ward-Prowse), and he has already proven his worth to Spurs. Fans of the north Londoners will be hoping they can make the most of him now that Kane is in Germany for Bayern Munich.
Dominik Szoboszlai
Our own acquisition of Dominik Szoboszlai has to be considered one of the best deals of the summer, as could the signing of Alexis Mac Allister. The Hungarian is still only 22 years old but has already had a global impact on the sport with his playing ability. Hopefully, it is not too long before we get to see what he can do with the ball at his feet while wearing the red of Liverpool!
Verdict
With some time still to go, it would not be a surprise if even bigger transfers were to be made as teams become desperate to make the additions they feel they need. There have been numerous signings across the Premier League this season that can all be called big, which is why it still has to be considered the best in the world!
