Starting XI: How should Liverpool line up against Newcastle United?
@AdamMNVi
A hard-fought three points against Aston Villa sets up Thursday’s clash against the Magpies, a game in which Liverpool need to respond to Manchester City’s convincing win against Leeds.
Curtis Jones returned to training this week which adds much-needed depth, while Diogo Jota also trained which should make him available for Thursday night.
Here’s how we should line up:
It’s hard to make changes to the back four who have been in dominant form. Of course, there’s an argument to rest players for Sunday, but Spurs have had their own issues with games being postponed. That said, I’ve gone with just the single change to the back four – Tsimikas comes in for Robertson.
Fabinho, Thiago and Henderson remain the go-to midfield three for the next two games before the EFL match midweek, but if we start strong enough, the Reds can put the game to bed early and make changes.
Positive news regarding the front three is that Roberto Firmino is back involved in training just in time for the Christmas period, though he won’t be starting this one. Salah, Mane and Jota remain upfront.
It should be a straightforward three points on Thursday. Newcastle have been terrible this season, and while it would be a worry if we were playing with an empty stadium, a packed Anfield crowd is what makes the Reds unstoppable at home.
Score prediction: Liverpool 4 – 0 Newcastle United
