Starting XI: How should Liverpool line up against Southampton?
@AdamMNVi
With Champions League business handled swiftly, The Reds must now focus on getting three points against Southampton.
A solid performance against Arsenal last time out in the Premier League provides plenty of promise, with Thiago easing his way into a rich vein of form and players like him will be massive as we head into the busy Christmas run – especially as AFCON is beginning to dawn upon the squad in the far distance.
Here’s how we should line up:
Alisson stays in goal as Liverpool revert to the back four that played last time out against Arsenal. Everything seemed to click when we took on the Gunners as we continued to limit their attack for the full 90 minutes.
A familiar pattern is emerging in midfield as we look to Fabinho and Thiago. These are the two players that are vital to Liverpool’s success. This was similar last season as we went on a run to finish in the top four, and it looks as though they’re beginning to find form. Elsewhere, there’s no need to move Ox who has been impressive in his last few outings, though he could do with finding a little more cutting edge going forward.
And with Firmino not yet back to full fitness, Jota comes back into the lineup for Minamino who led the line well on Wednesday night. Salah and Mane complete the side from the flanks.
If we’re going to win the league then these are the sort of games we need to be winning comfortably, and with the Anfield crowd behind the team, there’s less anxiety about taking on a side who could look to come and park the bus.
Score prediction: Liverpool 3 – 0 Southampton
