Written by: Daniel Ghorbal @GhorbalDanAfter a hard-fought 3-2 victory over West Ham on Monday night, the reds need just 4 more wins to secure the league title, with their destiny truly within touching distance now. With regards to this fixture, Watford are on poor form themselves, picking up just 2 points from their last 5 games. Their resurgence under Nigel Pearson has been admirable despite a recent blip though, giving themselves a big chance of surviving after being written off prior to Christmas.Their first game under Pearson was a trip to Anfield, and it is arguable that Watford caused more problems than most visiting teams this season, spurning 2 massive chances on the day and showing real intent as opposed to sitting back and looking to stifle the reds. The likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Ismalia Sarr caused the reds numerous problems on that day, and with the latter back in the squad after an injury, he will be looking to hit the ground running again after a bright start to life at Vicarage Road.A key reason for their resurgence under Pearson is due to the availability of captain and talisman Troy Deeney. Despite not being the most technically gifted player, his sheer presence and leadership on the pitch is notable and he lifts those around him.His physicality and ability to bring players into the game is a key trait of the veteran, and if they are to stay up this season, then Deeney’s contributions will undoubtedly be a key reason for that. Up against Virgil Van Dijk, Deeney may struggle to get into the game as much as he’d hope to, but one thing that can be said about him is that he certainly won’t hide in a game.

Although Watford are in the relegation zone, a couple of players have impressed this season in addition to the fore-mentioned Doucoure and Sarr. Keeper Ben Foster and winger Gerard Deulofeu have been fairly consistent this campaign, winning the Hornets several points. Similarly to Deeney, Foster is one of the most honest characters in football, yet to go with this he is a top player too.Despite making a couple of mistakes in recent weeks, without him Watford would certainly be rooted within the depths of the table. Similarly, Deulofeu’s flair has stood out in a struggling side, causing many teams problems with his superb dribbling ability and pace. In a game whereby chances may be limited, it is vital that the ex-Everton man drives his side forward and creates chances when given the opportunity to.For me, I think this has the potential to be a really tricky fixture for Liverpool, but on the contrary, an early goal for the visitors could be catastrophic for Watford, if they stay in the game and get the crowd behind them then it has the makings of a battle that Watford will certainly not shy out of. Their ageing back line up against the exuberance of Mane, Salah and Firmino may be an issue but if they are as organised as they have the potential to be, then this could certainly not be easy for Klopp’s men.
