West Brom 1-2 Liverpool | Things We Learned

Liverpool beat West Brom 1-2 at the Hawthorns thanks to a late Alisson Becker (yes Alisson) goal!

What Happened There?!?

What a mad end to that game and what a header from Alisson! My head well and truly fell off in that moment as I just couldn’t believe what happened! He just strolled in to the box and no one paid him any attention except for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was exceptional again today, and the keeper just rose like a salmon and put the ball in the net.

Liverpool dominated for the majority of that match and we should have had the game dead and buried before the Alisson goal with some of the missed opportunities but sometimes some things happen for a reason and I’m just so so happy for Alisson.

Champions League Still Possible

I feel very differently now about the way our season will end compared to how I felt on the 90th minute of that game. It is very typical Liverpool for us to leave it until the last minute to do something like this but as long we get the job done I don’t care how we do it.

West Brom takes the lead through Hal Robsun-Kanu and it was a great finish by the striker to put the home side in the lead. That was a bit of a wake-up call for Liverpool and 15 minutes later Mo Salah adds another goal to his Premier League tally to go level with Harry Kane. Not sure why the free-kick was given in the build-up to the goal, Mike Dean clearly gets in the way of Fabinho but the ref usually gives a drop ball in those situations.

I thought Thiago was brilliant today, he’s really excelled in the last couple of matches and West Brom struggled to contain him throughout the 90 minutes and left him with way too much space which allowed him to pick passes out and create opportunities. He got himself in some good shooting positions too which is what I want to see more from our midfielders.

The second half continued on like the first with us being in control of the game and we had plenty of opportunities to get a second goal but it just wasn’t happening. West Brom had a decent spell in the second half also and they were unlucky to have a goal ruled out I think, if that was given against us I would be livid.

However, a win is a win and at this point, I will take it any way we can get it.

Burnley Up Next

Burnley awaits on Wednesday night and I’m expecting a similar game to today’s where they will just sit in and try and frustrate us and I think Jurgen Klopp and the team will be expecting that so fingers crossed it’s another three points. Up The Reds!
