Liverpool once again travelled to Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers once again. After our recent double header in the FA Cup that ended in victory for the Reds, this time unfortunately it proved to be an absolute disaster as Jurgen Klopp’s struggling side fell to a humbling 3-0 defeat.
Here’s how I rated the individual performances for what was an extremely poor display overall…
Alisson Becker 6 – It could have been a lot worse only for our fine Brazilian goalkeeper pulling off several decent saves, he couldn’t really have done anything about any of them so it is what it is!
Thiago Alcantara 3 – He didn’t influence the game whatsoever, once again very poor with his usually reliable passing range. Not at the races here.
Trent Alexander-Arnold 3 – One decent ball through to set Darwin Nunez away for a fantastic chance, but that was as good as it got unfortunately.
Joe Gomez 3 – Not on his game in a positive way at all, had no assurance in his play whatsoever and was involved in a negative way for two of the goals we conceded, needs to bounce back very quickly indeed.
You can see how Chris rated the Reds during our post-match Fan Interactive Show…
Stefan Bajcetic 6 – Another really strong determined performance from the young man who is playing beyond his years, got stuck in at times as if his life depended on it, he can’t do it on his own!!!
Andy Robertson 4 – Not himself at all here as captain for the day, couldn’t really get forward to influence the game and he was part of a defence that conceded three goals and two inside the first 12 minutes – not good!
Darwin Nunez 5 – Got in behind on more than one occasion, but unfortunately, yet again he failed to finish his chances off.
Mohamed Salah 3 – Yet more chances fell to him, but he did not look convincing at any stage, he is going through a rare barren spell in his Liverpool career at the moment
Naby Keita 3 – A relatively quiet display from him this time around, he had a guilt-edged chance from very close range with lots of time and failed to get enough power on his attempt, totally lacking in confidence and it shows in his shooting.
Cody Gakpo 5 – Impressive pieces of skill at various stages throughout the game in another outing in a different position to the previous week. Definitely struggling to settle but it’s nigh on impossible to judge him in this current Liverpool funk.
Joel Matip 3 – All over the place and panicked throughout the game and to top it all off he scored opened the scoring for the hosts. He needs to steady himself big time with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate unlikely to be back to face Everton, not easy for a man totally lacking in confidence.
Subs
Jordan Henderson 4 – Provided energy and played a part in the move that got Darwin Nunez in on goal, effort there yes, but sadly that’s it for the skipper this time around.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain/Harvey Elliott/James Milner/Kostas Tsimikas 4- Now you’re 3 -0 down and there are only a few minutes left on the clock, with all due respect it was an impossible task for these lads to do anything, no blame attached to them in any way shape or form – minutes in the legs I suppose!!
Conclusion
Look we need to forget about this one very quickly indeed, the Merseyside derby is on the horizon and I feel the only way we are going to get a result on Monday night is to play Everton at their own game because we need to play against the opposition that is put in front of us, and we need to battle and give everything we have got to get a much-needed win .
Everton on the other hand will be full of confidence after their morale-boosting victory over Arsenal last time out.
It’s been a while since the Blue half of Liverpool went in as favourites, but that may very well be the case here…
