Article by Josh Bunting – @Buntingfootball With the current Coronavirus Pandemic Josh Bunting caught up with several players from the Women’s Super League to talk about their careers so far and how they are keeping fit in the current climate.

Lia Wälti – Arsenal 

What has been your favourite moment of the season so far? “My Favourite moment of the season so far was the home game against Manchester City. We had a great game winning 1-0 and I really enjoyed being on the pitch after my long-term injury”Lia Walti injury update | News | Arsenal.comHow have you been training during this period? “I am still in rehab from a hamstring injury. I am trying to do everything at home or some runs in the park outside”.When did you first get into football? “I got into football when I was 7, there were many girls who started to play football at this time. So I followed my friends and I liked it”.What’s been your favourite moment with the national team?“My favorite moment in the national team was, when we qualified for the World Cup in 2015. It was the first time in Swiss womens football history, that we made it to a big tournament”.Who would be your dream 5 aside team?“There are more than 5 players I would love to have in my team. I would go with the current Arsenal squad and would probably buy Pernille Harder and Griedge Mbock Bathy”. 

Rachel Furness – Liverpool 

 What has been your favourite moment from the season so far? “With my current club Liverpool it would be scoring the winner against Bristol City to get us the well deserved 3 points”.Northern Ireland star Rachel Furness nominated for Player of the ...How are you training during this period?.“During this period we have been lucky enough to get programmes and a lot of support from the club. I try and have a daily routine to keep myself in a good place both physically and mentally. On my daily outing to exercise I take my dog with me to give him a good run out too”” I go to an empty football field close to my home and do my session. My dog normally sets the pace and I end up chasing him. I have been challenging myself to find different ways to train having been limited with equipment”.“I am lucky enough I have a bike at home that I use on some days and I have been taking part in Joe Wicks PE lessons to mix up my training”.When did you first get into playing football? “I have two older brothers and my dad was football mad. I just wanted to do what my brother done so I was the annoying little sister that wanted to join in. From then I didn’t look back”.What’s your favourite moment that you’ve played in the national team?“This is a very tough one as I’ve had a lot of great memories playing for Northern Ireland. I’d say a one that pops up is my first ever goal for the senior team.“We played Slovakia at home in a qualifier and i was only 16 at the time. I was nervous but so excited for the game as I felt no pressure. I was a flying winger at the time and I remember setting up the first goal and scoring the second”.“We won the game 2-1 and it was the first time my mum had seen me play for Northern Ireland so it was an extra special moment”Who would be your dream 5 aside team?

Emma Kelly- Birmingham City 

What has been your favourite moment from the season so far? “My favourite moment of the season so far has been reaching the quarter finals of the FA Cup. Making my first start for Birmingham Women against Sheffield and gaining a 3-0 win, to then beat Sunderland Women and go on to the quarters, still yet to be played against Brighton”.Birmingham City Women sign midfielder Emma Kelly - SheKicksHow are you training during this period? “The clubs fitness coach has sent us unit based fitness programmes which I have been following everyday. It usually consists of going to a nearby football field to run or using home based gym exercises and equipment. This has been a great way to keep me engaged in doing varied fitness sessions everyday which are keeping me fit and sharp for return”When did you first get into football? ” I first got into football when I was 5 years old. My dad and brother being the main influences. I’d always be going out in the garden to have a kick around and just want to be playing all the time”What’s been your favourite memory in the national team? “My favourite moment with the national team was competing in a European Qualifiers in Sweden, 2016. It was a challenging but really enjoyable tournament where we played against Austria, Belgium and Sweden”.Who would be your dream 5 aside team?“My dream 5 a side team would be in goal- Rachael Laws and then Lucy Bronze, Demi Stokes, Cloe Lacasse, and Vivianne Miedema” . 

Tessa Wullaert- Manchester City 

What has been your favourite moment from the season so far? “My favourite moment from the season so far would be the 1-0 win over Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium. It was the first Women’s Super League Manchester Derby ever and we won the game infront of 30’000 crowd so that was amazing”.Interview: Speaking to Tessa Wullaert – Nischal's BlogHow are you training during this period? ” We got a programme from City, so it keeps me occupied for at least half a day 5 times a week”. It’s running based, football based and also on the bike and gym as well so it’s good but it’s tough as well, so I hope the season will still continue as we will be back and fit and ready to go”.When did you first get into playing football?” I first got into football when I was 5, I was dancing before but I really didn’t like it and I actually went to dancing class because I liked the snack in between more than the actual dancing”.“So my Dad was a coach and my Grandad was as well and that’s how I actually got into football, My Mum was really positive about it because times were different back then when girls wanted to play football but my Dad was a bit Sceptical about it but they quickly could see I was really good and had a talent for it so they were happy that I chose football”.What has been your favourite memory in the national team? ” My favourite moment in the national team would be qualifying for the European Championships. It was in Holland in 2017 in the second game we played Norway, it was our first victory ever we beat them 2-0, I got player of the match and I still have that little trophy”.“It reminds me of a really nice tournament and hopefully we qualify again in 2022 due to Euro 2021 being pushed back due to the ongoing Coronavirus Crisis”.” I hope we can qualify again because it was great for Belgium football that we qualified and we got more media attention and we also got more resources to get bigger staff and more finances as well”.Who would be your dream 5 aside team?

Brianna Visalli- Birmingham City 

What has been your favourite moment from the season so far?“My favorite moment of the season so far has been our win against Liverpool because it felt like we finally pulled off the result that we deserved collectively and individually. Our performance was reflective of the character that we have as competitors and teammates”.How have you been training during this period? “I am training as normal. I have access to local pitches and I have a bag of footballs, so life has been fairly normal. The only thing that has been hard to cope with is my at home gym which has a limited selection of dumbells and weights. I have been having to do a lot of single leg or single arm variations to tease out the weight that I normally would lift”When did you first get into football? ” I first started playing football when I was in the local Church recreation league. I was four years old and my step dad was the coach. I would pick daisies and complain, but the following year, I was the feistiest player in the bunch”Brianna Visalli (@brivisalli) | TwitterWhat’s been your favourite memory in the national team? “My favorite moment would have to be winning the Nordic Cup–that was a huge honor to represent my country at such a high level.
