Liverpool have once again been linked with a move for Belgian midfielder Romeo Lavia from recently relegated Southampton as Jurgen Klopp attempts to fix the clear issues in the squad ahead of next season.

The Reds have already added Alexis Mac Allister to the mix and the likes of Khephren Thuram, Manu Kone and Gabri Veiga have also been heavily indexed with a move to Merseyside.

However, after Fabrizio Romano brought fresh news on the pursuit of Lavia on Monday, I spoke to a friend of the show and reputable Belgian football journalist Sacha Tavolieri (@sachatavolieri) to get the latest for our Transfer Insight show.

BOBBY FIRMINO: BEST IN THE WORLD

Sacha said:

“What I can say is Liverpool are going ahead with the profile, they are still interested, and they have kept contact with the entourage of the player.

“They announced their intention to make an offer this summer. This is something quite concrete and huge.

“As I said in my tweet yesterday there are contacts with Southampton that can really help on the deal.”

Albeit many Reds – myself included – have their hearts set on Thuram, adding a player of the potential of Lavia to Klopp’s ranks would still be a welcome boost.

Whilst making 35 appearances last season for the Saints, the 19-year-old – who was described as being ‘press-resistant’ by journalist Jacob Tanswell – earned an average 6.80 SofaScore rating and ranks similar to the likes of Idrissa Gana Gueye, Mario Lemina and Xaver Schlager (Fbref).

For the mooted £40million fee, Lavia, plus one of the aforementioned others, alongside Mac Allister, would be a midfield rebuild well done.
